Tongariro Crossing - New Zealand

On January 21st 2003 we started the TONGARIRO CROSSING at 9.30 a.m. from Mangatepopo carpark. We had a marvellous walk with the most terrific sunny and clear weather. It was GREAT! Nine hours later we had reached Ketetahi road-end. More than 17 km walking and tramping from a height of 900 m up to nearly 2000 m and back to 800 m... We met a lot of nice fellow-trackers and made about 5-6 stops. I would love to make this Crossing again. It was the most spectacular and wonderful walk I have ever made and I would say the most beautiful day of the time I spent in wonderful Aotearoa..................
